Open Me

ארימ׿ | Ạˈvṛịđmẹ | Open Me is a תְּפִלָּה | təfịˈḷàh | prayer from the הַלֵּל | Haˈḷéḷ | Praise, a set of Psalms, 113..118, which are sung on Jewish festivals. This song is sung on יוֹם כִּיפּוּר | Yom Kiˈpur | the Day of Atonement.

The lyrics of the prayer are from Psalm 118:19:

פִּתְחוּ־לִ֥י שַֽׁעֲרֵי־צֶ֑דֶק אָֽבֹא־בָ֝֗ם אוֹדֶ֥ה יָֽהּ׃
| Pịt͡hˈħụ-ḷị s͡hạ‘ạˈṛéĭ ˈt͡sèđèq! Àvọ’ vàm! ’Ọđèh Yàḥ! |
Open me the gates of justice! I will enter them! I will thank G!d!

There is also a version of the song with Ladino lyrics, which is called פִּתְחוּ־לִי | Pịt͡hˈħụ-ḷị | Pitkhu-Li Open Me.

The melody is in the Jewish scale.

In this stretto round for four voices, by David ben Or, the voices enter just one measure apart, evoking a queue of the righteous mounting the stairs of justice, one by one entering by the gates, in step, and descending the gentle steps beyond.
